The Story of K&D Equestrian
Built from grit, forged for strength — since 1983
Where It All Began
K&D Equestrian was founded in 1983 by Ken Fomby—a toolmaker by trade and a horseman by heart. The "K&D" in our name? That stands for Ken and Doris, the powerhouse duo behind the legacy. What started as a need in the horse racing world quickly grew into a mission: build the most durable, functional, and rider-approved products the industry had ever seen.
Ken wasn’t new to making things last. In the 1960s, he was crafting molds for fishing lures before many in the equestrian space had even thought about injection plastic. When racing needs grew, Ken took his trade skills and transformed them into solutions for stables, ranches, and riders across the country.
A Family Legacy
From day one, K&D has been a family affair. Ken’s son, Kenneth “K.R.” Fomby Sr., was raised around racetracks across Texas and New Mexico. Whether mucking stalls or prepping racehorses, he lived the life that shaped our brand. K.R. wasn’t just a helper — he was a champion. At just six years old, he won a national title in pole bending with his legendary horse Nugget, who earned a name as one of the best to ever run poles.
Ken and K.R. didn’t stop there. The family also formed the “Poor Boys” Pony Express Team, riding through North Texas and Southern Oklahoma with K.R. and his three sisters. It wasn’t just a team — it was a way of life.
What We Stand For
Durability. Strength. Built-for-purpose design. These aren’t buzzwords — they’re the standards every K&D product is held to. Tested at our F-Bar Ranch in Gainesville, Texas, each product is made to outperform and outlast the competition. Because we don’t just sell gear — we use it every single day.
Decades later, K&D Equestrian continues to be a name trusted by professionals, trainers, and weekend warriors alike. We’re proud of our roots, and even prouder of the legacy we continue to build — one bucket, one brush, one barn at a time.
