About K&D Equestrian

Built by horsemen. Proven in real barns. Trusted for decades.

K&D Equestrian was founded in 1983 by Ken Fomby, a lifelong toolmaker and horseman who believed barn equipment should work as hard as the people using it. The name K&D comes from Ken and Doris, the husband-and-wife team behind the brand’s foundation.

Long before equestrian equipment was mass-produced overseas, Ken was designing and building durable tools himself. In the 1960s, he was already making molds for fishing lures, mastering injection plastic techniques years before they became common in the horse industry.

When the racing world needed better gear, Ken applied that same craftsmanship to stable tools. What started as a practical solution quickly grew into a reputation for products that simply did not quit.

A Family Built on Horses

From the beginning, K&D Equestrian has been a family operation. Ken’s son, Kenneth “K.R.” Fomby Sr., grew up around racetracks across Texas and New Mexico. Mucking stalls, prepping horses, and learning the daily realities of barn life shaped how the brand evolved.

K.R.’s connection to horses wasn’t casual. At just six years old, he won a national title in pole bending with his horse Nugget, a horse widely remembered for exceptional speed and consistency.

The Fomby family also formed the Poor Boys Pony Express Team, riding together across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. It wasn’t about competition or recognition. It was about horses, miles, and shared responsibility.

What K&D Equestrian Stands For

Durability is not a marketing phrase at K&D. It is the baseline.

Every product is designed around real failure points seen in daily barn use. Cracked plastics, snapped handles, worn components. If it breaks in real life, it gets redesigned.

Products are tested and refined at F-Bar Ranch in Gainesville, Texas, where gear is used the same way it is in training barns, boarding facilities, and working ranches.

“We’re not just making barn gear. We’re making tools for horsemen, by horsemen.” — K.R. Fomby Sr.

A Legacy That Still Works

Decades after its founding, K&D Equestrian remains focused on the same principles it started with: build it strong, make it functional, and don’t waste the customer’s time or money.

From buckets and forks to grooming tools and barn essentials, K&D products are made to be used daily, not replaced seasonally.

The legacy isn’t nostalgia. It’s equipment that still earns its place in the barn.
