Set Up and Maintain a Horse Water Station

1. Choose the location before the hardware

Check the stall door swing, feed area and the horse's normal movement. Avoid a location that crowds a passage or makes the bucket difficult to remove. Watch the horse drink and turn in the actual setup.

2. Plan capacity and refill access together

Nominal bucket capacity is not a horse's daily drinking allowance. Choose capacity, the number of stations and a refill routine that maintain access to clean water. Think through hot days, busy mornings and who covers the next check.

3. Make inspection part of the chore round

• Check water level and cleanliness, not just whether the bucket is present.
• Look at the rim, handle and hanger before adding weight.
• Look for loose fasteners or movement in the mounting surface.
• Remove contaminated water and clean the bucket; do not repeatedly top off a dirty container.
• Recheck after an impact, a changed mounting position or a different horse moving into the stall.

4. Keep a clean spare ready

5. Hand off useful information

Tell the next person when the water was checked, any unusual debris or damage, and any meaningful change in drinking. Contact your veterinarian about a significant or unexplained change rather than trying to solve it solely by changing bucket color or model.
