How Kenneth Keeps His Horses Cool on Hot August Nights
Ranch tested summer recovery for real horsemen. When the sun sets but the heat does not, this is the routine that keeps horses comfortable overnight.
1. Night sweats are real, even for horses
Texas August does not believe in cooling off. Even after sunset, barn temps can sit in the 80s and 90s. That heat stacks up fast and it can mess with recovery, hydration, and sleep for horses and riders.
2. The cooling routine starts after the ride
After evening work or turnout, I go straight into cool down mode.
- Rinse off sweat with cool water.
- Scrape off excess water so evaporation can do its job.
- Apply Draw It Out® 128oz Concentrate Liniment to legs, backs, and hocks.
It is chemical free and pain free. No sting, no burn. Just support that fits real barn use.
3. Why I keep Draw It Out® in the tack room and the trailer
This is a real world endorsement. The big bottle lives where the work happens. When the heat is heavy, the goal is simple: help the horse settle, cool down, and recover so tomorrow is not a problem.
“I don’t use anything on my horses I wouldn’t use on myself. And I use Draw It Out®.”

4. Stall setup hacks that help
- Keep stalls ventilated. Open the top doors when you can.
- Make water easy to access and easy to keep clean.
- Hang buckets securely so horses cannot tip them and you are not refilling all night.
5. Hydration is everything
Salt, electrolytes, and fresh water at all times. If a horse is not drinking, you do what works to keep fluids moving. The mistake is waiting until you see dehydration.
“You don’t wait for dehydration. You stay ahead of it.”
