From Racetracks to Ranch Life
Some people grow up with bedtime stories. I grew up with horse trailers, early mornings, and buckets full of feed.
My name is K.R. Fomby. While I may sign the checks today, the roots of K&D Equestrian go far deeper than a business title. They run through the racetracks of Texas and New Mexico. Through the dusty trails my sisters and I rode with my dad in our Pony Express team, the Poor Boys. Through the first time I ever swung a leg over Nugget, the pole-bending horse that carried me to a national championship at six years old.
We didn’t just grow up around horses. We grew up because of them.
My dad, Ken, never planned to start a company. He was trying to solve a problem. The gear available at the time did not hold up. Buckets cracked. Forks snapped. Feed tubs flipped. As a toolmaker by trade, he did what he always did. He built something better.
Those first molds were created in a small Texas shop out of necessity, frustration, and pride. That moment became the foundation of K&D Equestrian.
The principle has never changed. Strength and durability come first. Appearance is secondary. If a product cannot stand up to daily barn work or a thousand-pound horse having a bad morning, it does not belong in our lineup.
Today, every K&D product is still tested at the F-Bar Ranch in Gainesville, Texas. They are used by people who ride, feed, clean stalls, and depend on their equipment the same way we always have.
“We’re not just making barn gear. We’re making tools for horsemen, by horsemen.” — K.R. Fomby Sr.
I am proud to carry forward what my dad started. K&D Equestrian was never about trends. It has always been about reliability, consistency, and tools that do their job without excuses.
If you want the full story behind how this company was built, you can read it here: The Legacy of K&D Equestrian .
Thanks for riding with us. We have your back, and your barn.
