What do horse blinkers do?
Horse blinkers, also called blinders, restrict part of a horse’s peripheral view. Cup-style blinkers attach to a hood and reduce what the horse can see beside or behind it. They are selected for a specific training or racing purpose; they do not improve eyesight or replace training.
“Blinkers” and “blinders” are often used interchangeably. Driving bridles can also have blinders, but K&D’s KD-117 and KD-118 are sew-through cup pairs for racing and training hoods. They are components, not complete hoods.

Before fitting or changing cups
- Define the purpose with your trainer. Describe the specific distraction or training issue rather than assuming stronger restriction is better.
- Check the hood and cup compatibility. Have a racing-tack professional assess the sewing area, cup orientation and intended coverage. Do not assume a universal fit.
- Check clearance and attachment. The finished setup must stay secure and clear of the eyes, with no rubbing edges, loose stitching or damaged cups.
- Evaluate the horse in a controlled setting. An experienced handler should assess its response before normal work resumes.
- Confirm event requirements. Ask the trainer or governing organization about current equipment rules before racing or competing.
Common questions
Are full cups better for a nervous horse?
Not automatically. A more restrictive view is not a general treatment for nervousness or spooking. Selection should follow the trainer’s assessment of the individual horse and the task.
Do these cups include the hood?
No. These listings are sew-through cup pairs for use in a compatible hood setup.
