Use a tub as an organizer first

The KD-121 is a 28-quart wall-mount feed tub, with three U-bolts and reinforcing backer plates. Its published animal-feeding role does not establish that it is a freestanding, tip-proof planter. For garden work, begin with appropriate organization and confirm the load and support.

A planter conversion changes the product

Drilling drainage holes changes how a tub holds water and feed. Before modifying it, ask about the material, expected load, installation and effect on any applicable product coverage. Once a container has been assigned to soil treatments or garden chemicals, keep it out of feed and drinking-water service.

For edible planting, use a container whose suitability for that purpose has been confirmed. A feed-container description alone is not a complete gardening specification.

Match the tool to the garden material

Choose a suitable rake for the material you are gathering or spreading. Do not use a cleanup rake as a digging bar, pry tool or substitute for every soil-working tool. Inspect the head and connection before applying a load.

Make the alternate use earn its place

A useful garden adaptation should simplify the job without creating a confusing cleanup or storage routine. If a purpose-made garden container is the better fit, use it.
