Horse Buckets Born in the Racehorse Industry

Fast answer: K&D horse buckets are shaped by a hard-earned lesson from Thoroughbred barns: powerful horses expose weak equipment fast. Buckets crack, handles pull through, tubs flip, and cheap replacements become expensive habits. K&D began when toolmaker Ken Fomby started building better molds for the barn gear his family actually needed.

That racehorse background still guides the line today—design from the failure point backward, use horse-aware hardware, and prove durability under real barn abuse. Read the K&D racehorse-origin story.

Choose the bucket for the job

  • KD-120 Platinum, 20 Qt: the reinforced step-up bucket for harder daily use, with a one-piece perimeter metal ring, patented Mane & Tail Saver, and the Platinum Bucket Promise.
  • KD-120E Silver, 18 Qt: the practical everyday flat-back bucket for feed, water, stalls, trailers, and barns that need dependable buckets in quantity.
  • KD-154 Flat Back, 8 Qt: a smaller option for supplements, small portions, trailers, and youth chores.
  • KD-159 Round, 8 Qt: a compact carry-around utility bucket for feed, water, grooming supplies, and barn chores.

What matters more than bucket weight?

Material behavior, wall and rim design, stress distribution, handle attachment, cold-weather toughness, and horse contact points. A heavy bucket can still be brittle or poorly reinforced. Watch K&D’s horse-stomp, kick, crush, and run-over demonstrations, then judge the design by what it survives.
